The problem is that people want to get back to their regular routine as soon as they can following oral surgery. One thing they want to do is physical exercise. This is not always the best decision. It is a good idea to know why you need to restrict your exercise regimen and how you can get back to your regular routine.

The Reasons Against Exercising

When it comes to avoiding exercise, some people may not need much of a reason. Despite that, there are a few good reasons not to exercise. The first is the use of sedation for an oral surgery. You need to wait until after the sedation is completely worn off to prevent any problems.

Even after the anesthesia wears off, you need to limit the amount of physical activity. You do not want to move in a way that could impact the wound site in a negative way. You also need to give your body the chance to recover from the surgical procedure.

How Long to Wait
The question that most will ask after they hear they should not exercise after oral surgery is how long they should wait. That depends on a few things. The type of oral surgery, the amount of sedation and the overall health of the individual.

For a simple procedure, such as a root canal, you can resume your regular exercise routine after a few days. More difficult procedures such as wisdom tooth removal, you may want to wait several days. Getting implants with a bone graft may mean staying away from exercising for more than a week and slowly adding more activities over time.
