What to Do if You Feel Your Tooth Break
Posted on 12/15/2019 by Dr. Chad Rebhun
When you suffer any type of injury, the choices you make play a big role in how well you can recover from the injury. In the case of a broken tooth, there are several things that you can do that will help you restore your oral health as soon as possible. The right choices can also limit the impact that the broken tooth has on you until you get it fixed.
Don't Panic If you bite down on something and notice that you are chewing on a piece of your tooth or you get hit in the face and see a tooth on the ground, you will react in some way. The most common thing that people do is to panic. While this is normal, it is important to limit this and to calm down after breaking a tooth. The calmer you are, the easier it is to take the steps to repair whatever damage there is.
One of the ways to calm down is to give our office a call. We can help direct you with what steps you need to take. We can also offer the reassurances that we will help you with any issues that result from the broken tooth.
Some of the Steps to Take The first thing you need to do is to stop any bleeding that occurs after breaking a tooth. The amount of blood can range from none to a lot. Controlling the bleeding is an important step. You can also try to collect any pieces of the tooth that have broken off. Put them in some type of container to bring to our office.
As important as it is to do certain things, it is also important to not do some things. Do not try to remove any pieces of the tooth that remain. Do not worry if you swallowed the broken tooth or cannot find all the pieces. Most importantly, do not just accept the broken tooth and do nothing about it.
The good news is there are plenty of ways that we can help manage the damage of a broken tooth and can help restore your smile. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment to learn how we can help you maintain your smile.
