When a Cracked or Broken Tooth Needs to Come OutRight now, there are over 10 million of you walking around with a tooth that may be cracked or broken. If you are lucky, you can get your tooth fixed without too much trouble.

However, there are people running around with cracked or broken teeth that will need to be extracted. Need more information? Let us tell you why your cracked or broken teeth may need to come out.

Why Is My Tooth Cracked or Broken?

People have cracked or broken teeth for several reasons. Your tooth may be cracked or broken because of tooth decay. Over time, a cavity in your tooth can grow large enough to damage your tooth beyond repair. When that happens, all it takes is a little bit of pressure and your tooth could snap or crack.

Also, it is possible that gum disease has caused your tooth to become broken, because the gum area around the tooth might be disintegrating. When the gum begins to deteriorate, you may lose your tooth, or it can also break or crack.

You could also crack or break your tooth as you age. The older you get, the more likely you are to break or crack a tooth. Over time, your enamel wears down, and that makes it easier to crack or break a tooth.

When Your Tooth Might Need to Come Out

In a lot of cases when you break or crack a tooth, we can fix it for you quickly. We may be able to use composite to repair a crack or a break. We can also crown the tooth to cover a break or a crack and strengthen it. However, there are times when the tooth is cracked or broken that we cannot fix it.

For example, when your tooth is cracked or broken below the surface of the gumline, we will have to remove it. We have to remove it because it could cause more damage or infection from the cracked or broken tooth. You might also need to have your cracked or broken tooth removed if it becomes infected, or if a nerve is exposed, because it is painful.
