Why Your Dentist Would Refer You to an Oral Surgeon

If your dentist refers you to us, he or she wants you to obtain dental assistance that covers complicated extractions or the treatment of wisdom teeth. The following information covers how we can help you with your oral healthcare needs.
Oral Surgical Specialties
If you want to consult with us because of a dental recommendation, it usually has to do with the extraction of impacted wisdom teeth or teeth that are too damaged to treat. Many of our patients also book appointments with us regarding the placement of dental implants. In addition, we may be consulted if you have sustained a facial trauma to your mouth or jaw. We serve as specialists, as well, in the assessment and treatment of certain pathological conditions. These conditions may include severe oral infections or oral cysts or tumors. We may be referred by a dentist, as well, in cases where TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) may be an issue. Dentists find it necessary, at times, to refer patients to us who need reconstructive or cosmetic procedures performed involving the facial bones, jaw bone, or the soft tissues of the face.
What Are Your Oral Surgical Needs?
If you have a dental concern that needs to be examined by an oral surgeon, you should prepare for the visit by writing down any questions you may have. You also will need to provide your full medical history and tell us about any medications you may be taking. It helps us to know, for example, if you are allergic to antibiotics, such as penicillin, or what medications or supplements you are currently taking. Some of these substances may not work well with the medicines we may prescribe.
Do you need to see an oral surgeon? If so, we are only a phone call away and are happy to assist you in any way we can.
