What Treatments Do Oral Surgeons Perform?

Oral surgeons carry out a range of treatments. This can be anything from wisdom teeth extractions, dental implant placements, reconstructive surgery to the mouth, and diagnosing facial pain caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.

Other procedures performed by oral surgeons include bone smoothing and shaping before placing prosthetics, socket preservation, preprosthetic surgery, and treating frenectomies.

Tooth Extractions

Complex teeth extractions where the tooth may be broken below the gum line or impacted wisdom teeth are often procedures that require the expertise of an oral surgeon for extraction.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

If you are suffering from pain in the back of your mouth, you might have an impacted wisdom tooth.

If you are looking for a solution to your problem, we here at Optimum Oral Surgery & Dental Implants are here to give you the information and help that you need.

Dental Implants

Oral surgeons’ expertise is second-to-none in the placement of dental implants into the bone and in the management of any complications that may arise.

Restore your smile today!

All On 4 Implants

Sometimes replacing one or two teeth with a dental implant isn’t enough to get the job done. That’s why we offer full arch restorations with All on 4, also known as All on X, full arch replacements.

All on X replaces an entire row of missing teeth to restore your smile and jaw function, letting you get back to your normal routine.

Bone Grafting

Following tooth loss, your jawbone begins to lose bone mass. If the bone is too weak, the bone may not be able to fuse properly to dental implant posts. Dental implants rely on your jawbone for stability and success.

If you’ve lost bone mass in your jaw, then you might be a candidate for a dental bone graft.

Impacted Canines

If you have an impacted tooth it is blocked from erupting fully, getting stuck in the socket. This is most often the case for upper canines.

Some people can have their impacted teeth pulled into their proper positions, while others will need those teeth extracted.

Sedation Treatment

Sedation dentistry uses various medications to help you relax during dental procedures. It is a safe and effective way to reduce anxiety and fear, making procedures more comfortable.

This can be a good option for patients who need to have multiple procedures done at once or patients with disabilities or special needs.

Dental Emergencies

Dental trauma is often the result of an accident, such as a car accident or a fall, or the result of a sports injury.

The severity of these injuries varies, and the type of treatment you need depends on the type, and severity, of the trauma.

No matter what the severity of the trauma, it is important that you seek treatment immediately.

Frenectomy

Tongue and lip ties are conditions that appear at birth. A tongue tie is a condition in which the frenulum that anchors the tongue to the floor of the mouth is too tight. In some instances, the frenulum may be attached too close to the tip of the tongue. With a tongue tie, the tongue is unable to move properly. This can affect the ability of an infant to nurse or bottle feed effectively.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral surgeons may be required to evaluate and treat conditions of the mouth and face, including severe oral infections, cysts, or tumors. They can also help with any cancer treatments that may arise in patients.

When detected early enough, we can treat oral cancer by surgically removing the affected tissues. More advanced procedures may be needed the further the cancer advances.

Botox Injections

When most people hear the word “Botox” they think of crow’s feet and wrinkles on their foreheads. While Botox is great for those wrinkles, it also has some great uses in the medical industry, specifically with some forms of pain.

If you’ve been thinking about Botox for your pain issues with TMJ and migraines, let us help you get rid of that pain.
